Eagles Add DE Darryl Tapp Through Trade with Seattle
In a surprising trade, the Philadelphia Eagles have announced the addition of defensive end Darryl Tapp in a transaction with the Seahawks in which they sent a 2010 fourth round pick and defensive end Chris Clemons to Seattle.
Why is this trade surprising? Because it doesn’t really accomplish much for either team. Despite being a relatively young 25 years old, Tapp is hardly a standout defensive end. He was taken in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft and had his best year in his sophomore season, notching 7 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and an interception. Like Clemons, he is an undersized end who does his best work on third downs. Tapp has some more bulk than Clemons, outweighing him by 30 lbs. but his height at 6?1? isn’t typical for the position. He seems to provide quite a bit as an athletic end and could see a few rare snaps standing up from the Joker. Whether he’ll unseat Juqua Parker, who is coming off the best year of his career with 8 sacks and 2 forced fumbles, remains to be seen.
